Results Announced at the

9th International Yury Grigorovich Contest

“World Ballet Youth”

This year, the Contest was hosted from October 16-22, 2023 by the Winter Theater in Sochi, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of establishment of the Moscow State Academy of Choreography (the Bolshoi Ballet Academy).

Fifty performers from Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Republic of Korea and Japan competed in Juniors and Adults nominations.

Mayuko Fujii, 2nd year student from Japan, won a Recognition Diploma in the Juniors nomination for her performance of the cachucha from Le Diable Boiteux (the Lame Devil) by Jean Coralli. Mayuko also received a special award from the Ballet Magazine, Russia’s oldest periodical dedicated to dance, for “Superb Performance of Vernacular / Character Dance”.

Our congratulations to Mayuko, Lyudmila Ermakova and Svetlana Ivanova, her teachers! We wish them new accomplishments and triumphs!

From August 14th through 24th the Bolshoi Ballet Academy hosted the Intensive Summer Course in Choreography Disciplines. This year, the geography of the project has expanded: more than 100 students and teachers of professional dance training institutions and children’s arts schools across Russia – from St. Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Samara, Kyzyl, Kaliningrad, Krasnogorsk, Orel, Saratov, Ufa, Perm, Bishkek, Moscow – visited the Academy. The international students from Taiwan, USA, Italy, and Switzerland also took part in this course.

Two weeks of the course turned out to be very intense. In addition to daily master classes in classical and historical dances, the curriculum of the students included classes in acting, stage practice and a new added exciting subject – "Quality of movement in modern dance".

For the weekend, an excursion program was prepared for the guests of the Academy, which included acquaintance of participants with the sights of Moscow: trips to VDNKH and Kolomenskoye.


On August 24, the Academy hosted a gala at its theater, which included 47 choreographic pieces.

Master Classes in Dance and Choreography Disciplines
for Students from China

From August 10th through 15th the Academy hosted the second block of master-classes for 8 international students from China. The program included classical dance classes and stage practice. The classes were conducted by Polina N. Kyrova.

From June 26th through August 4th, 2023, A.S.E. Global Bridges
and the Bolshoi Ballet Academy hosted two educational programs
for serious ballet students (ages 9-22) in New York and Connecticut.

Both programs provided expert through unique instruction by teachers
from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy. 6-weeks programs included pre-professional ballet training through class instruction, a final performance, and other related activities.
